Introduction
In 2002 when the detailed research was being conducted into where The Mango Tree Orphan Support Programme should operate, a whole range of locations were investigated. The border region in west Tanzania at the head of Lake Nyasa (Lake Malawi) transpired to have an exceptionally high incidence of HIV/AIDS orphans. So it was here that the initial The Mango Tree planted its roots. A few years later, and once the philosophy and model of The Mango Tree had become well established, the second Mango Tree organisation was established in Kenya. Again, this was in a place where poverty was a major issue and orphan care was desperately needed.
